About Us

Restore Your Laminate Benchtop with Surface Care

Laminate benchtops take more daily punishment than almost any surface in the house — hot pans, dropped pots, knife slips, scouring pads. The good news: most of that damage is repairable on-site, in a few hours, for a fraction of the cost of a new benchtop. Our technicians repair standard laminate, stone-look laminate and Laminex across Sydney and Melbourne, colour-matching the fill to your benchtop’s pattern, grain and sheen so the repair no longer draws the eye.

Every repair follows the same disciplined process: clean the surface, lightly sand the damaged area, mask it off, fill with premium hardwax or two-part epoxy resin, level the fill flush, then colour- and pattern-match the finish to the surrounding laminate.

In most cases we can repair your laminate benchtop on-site the same day, without removing or replacing it.

Burn Mark Laminate Benchtop Repair

Burn marks from hot pans, trays, appliances or cigarettes are the most common laminate call-out we get. Because laminate is a thin decorative layer over a timber substrate, a burn can’t be sanded out the way it can on solid timber — it has to be cut back, filled and re-created.

Surface Care will assess the burn’s depth, your laminate’s colour, pattern and texture, and explain what finish is realistic before any work starts. Light scorch marks usually blend closely; deep burns that have charred into the substrate may remain slightly visible after repair — we’d rather tell you that before we quote than surprise you after.

Our Services

Chipped Laminate Benchtop Repair — Chips, Scratches & Cuts

Depth decides the method. Fine surface scratches can often be improved with localised blending. Chips and knife cuts that go through the laminate layer need filling, shaping and colour work — we rebuild the missing material with hardwax or epoxy, then recreate the pattern over the fill so it reads as part of the original surface.

The final result depends on the laminate pattern, gloss level, damage location and how much original material is missing. Patterned and stone-look laminates are the most forgiving; high-gloss single colours are the most demanding, and we’ll say so upfront when we quote.

How We Repair a Cracked Laminate Benchtop

Cosmetic cracks — from an impact, a dropped pot, or age — can be filled, levelled and colour-matched like a chip.

What we won’t do is disguise a structural crack: if the benchtop is cracking because it’s moving, poorly supported or water-affected underneath, a cosmetic repair won’t hold, and we’ll recommend replacement instead of taking your money.

Our Services

Edge, Corner and Join Repairs

Edges, corners, joins and seams fail first because they take the impact, the moisture and the daily wear. Localised repair can rebond loose laminate, rebuild a chipped edge or corner, correct damaged edging strip and fill exposed substrate — provided the board underneath is still sound.

The honest limit: joins that have swollen from water ingress can’t be repaired to a standard we’d warranty. Once the substrate swells, it never sits flat again — that’s replacement territory, and we’ll tell you so at the quote stage.

General Questions

DIY Fix Or Professional Repair?

Small chips and fine scratches can sometimes be improved with DIY filler, paste or colour-matching products. Surface Care does not sell repair kits. Instead we provide professional laminate benchtop repairs where the damage needs colour matching, shaping, bonding or a cleaner finish.

Professional repair is the better option when the damage is visible, deep, near an edge, around a sink or cooktop, caused by water, or likely to affect a rental exit, sale, insurance claim or commercial presentation.

Avoid aggressive sanding, harsh chemicals or cutting away laminate unless you are resurfacing the benchtop. Laminate is a thin surface layer, so overworking the area can make the damage larger.

One warning from the trade: laminate is a thin surface layer. Aggressive sanding, harsh chemicals or cutting into it almost always makes the damage bigger — and turns a repair into a full replacement. If in doubt, send us a photo first; the quote is free.

General Questions

Repair or Replace?

We’d rather lose a job than do one that fails — so we’ll tell you upfront which side of this line your benchtop is on.

Repair is usually worth assessing first when the damage is localised and the rest of the benchtop is stable.

Replacement may be better when:

  • Water damage has swollen a large area
  • Laminate is lifting across long seams or edges
  • The benchtop is cracked, warped or poorly supported
  • The colour, pattern or finish cannot be matched closely enough
  • The cost of repair is too close to replacing the benchtop

A new laminate benchtop means tradies, templating, disconnection and reinstallation of sinks and cooktops — and days without a kitchen. A localised repair happens in one visit, usually in a few hours, and the benchtop is back in service the same day. Compare that with the real cost of replacing a kitchen benchtop — repair is usually worth assessing first when the damage is localised and the benchtop is otherwise sound. And if your laminate is repairable but tired all over, ask us about full benchtop resurfacing instead — a spray transformation of the whole top rather than a localised repair.

Most chips, burns, scratches and edge damage on laminate benchtops can be professionally repaired in a single visit, without replacing the benchtop. The exception is water-swollen laminate — once the substrate has swollen, repair won’t last, and we’ll tell you upfront that replacement is the better option.

Burn marks, chips, knife cuts, deep scratches, cosmetic cracks, damaged edges and corners, worn patches and exposed substrate — on standard laminate, stone-look laminate and Laminex, across Sydney and Melbourne.

We colour-match and pattern-match the fill to your benchtop so the repair no longer draws the eye. How close it gets depends on the laminate’s pattern, gloss and the damage depth — patterned laminates blend best, high-gloss single colours are the hardest, and we’ll give you a realistic picture before we start.

Most single repairs — a chip, a scratch, a burn mark — take between one and three hours on-site, and the surface is usable once the repair has fully cured, usually the same day.

Every job is quoted as a fixed price from your photos — free, with no hidden fees. The price depends on the damage type, size and your laminate’s pattern, and it’s almost always a fraction of what a replacement benchtop costs.

Yes — all our laminate benchtop repairs are backed by a workmanship warranty. The exceptions we’ll flag upfront: repairs in wet areas right beside sinks, and cosmetic crack repairs where the underlying movement continues.

No — we’re repair specialists, and that’s deliberate. It means when we tell you a benchtop is worth repairing, it’s not a sales pitch, and when replacement genuinely is the better option, we’ll say so.

We repair laminate benchtops across the Sydney and Melbourne metro areas — homes, rentals, offices and commercial fit-outs.
