Marble Benchtop Repairs

Marble looks stunning but it’s soft, making it susceptible to damage and stains. Surface Care fixes etching, stains, chips, cracks and seam issues, then we match the original sheen and texture.

Cracks (including mitred waterfalls)

Marble can crack for a number of reasons such as excess weight, thermal shock or substrate movement. This often happens around your sink, cooktop and in corners.

Re-bond the fracture point(s).
Fill cracks with a colour-matched resinwhich is then levelled.

Scratch Removal & Finishing

Marble is known to show scratch tracks and general wear, particularly on darker or high-gloss benchtops.

There are a couple of ways to repair scratches:

Firstly, we will hone the area to refine the scratch damage.
Then the surface is repolished to your chosen finish.
Note that a honed finish better removes damage, while a polish has a better final sheen.

Stain Extraction & Resealing (Oils, Wine, Coffee)

Porous marble can absorb spills that leave dark or coloured marks, especially if the sealer has worn off.

To fix stains, Surface Care will:

Identify the stain type, apply a targeted poultice to draw it out.
Clean thoroughly and apply a penetrating sealer.
Note that some stains may require repeated poulticing.
Our Services

Etching Removal (Acid Damage)

Marble can develop dull, light patches when acids like lemon, vinegar or wine react with the surface. This is known as etching, not staining.

To fix marble etching, Surface Care will:

Re-hone the affected area.
Repolish to an even sheen (polished or honed).
Reseal where appropriate.
Use pH-neutral, stone-safe cleaners.

An etch is more light grey, whereas a stain is a darker discolouration. Etches will need re-honing, while stains will need an extraction before any resealer is applied.

Use non-abrasive cleaning products only and look to avoid any acidic or gritty products.

Allow at least 24 hours for the repair to fully set and cure. If our technician has advised a different specific timeframe, please follow that guidance.

Whilst we colour, pattern, and sheen match as closely as possible, due to the surface type (polished stone) there may be some slight variation to the sheen of the repair and surrounding benchtop when exposed to light from different angles.
