Bath and basin chip repair in Sydney and Melbourne
Chipped the bath or knocked a chunk out of the basin? We fill it, match it to your white and seal it, on site. Send a couple of photos and we’ll give you a fixed price.
Chips on baths, basins and vanity bowls can usually be repaired in one visit. Cracks can’t, and neither can chips down inside the bath where water sits. For those, the honest options are resurfacing the whole fixture or replacing it.

Get my fixed priceRepair or replace?
A chip doesn’t mean a new bath or basin. Replacing one means a plumber, often a tiler, and matching it to the rest of the bathroom.
Fixed price from your photos
- One visit, done on site
- The fixture stays in, nothing disconnected
- Matched to your existing white
Replacing a bath usually means removing tiles or the hob around it, then re-tiling and re-sealing.
A new basin needs the plumbing disconnected and refitted, and may not match the bath or toilet next to it.
If a crack or widespread damage means repair isn’t sensible, we tell you that from the photos.
What we repair on baths, basins and vanities
We repair the fixture itself: ceramic and porcelain basins, enamelled steel and cast iron baths, and acrylic baths and vanities. First we work out what it’s made of, because each one takes the job differently.
Our most common repair
Chips in basins and vanity bowls
The most common job we do in bathrooms. A knocked rim, a chunk out of the side of a vessel basin, a chip at the front edge. Filled with a two-part filler, shaped to the curve, touched up to your white and sealed.
Fixed price from your photos, before anyone turns up.
Get my fixed priceWe also repair
- Chips on the rim and edges of a bathRims, rolled edges, the outside of a freestanding bath and the bottom edge near the floor.
- Chips in enamelled steel and cast iron bathsAny bare metal is treated first, so rust can’t grow under the repair and lift it.
- Screw holes and drill holesHoles left from screen brackets, rails or fittings, filled and matched.
- Scratches on acrylic and freestanding bathsLight scratches and scuffs on the outside of the bath.
- Whole bath or basin resurfacingWhen the surface is worn all over, or the damage is inside the bath, the whole fixture is recoated by our resurfacing technicians. Quoted from photos and measurements.
Is this the right repair for you?
We’re a good fit if
- You have a chip in a basin, vanity bowl or the rim or outside of a bath
- Your bath or basin is worn all over and you’d rather resurface it than replace it
- You’re in Sydney or Melbourne
We’re not the right call for
- Cracks or hairline fractures through a bath or basin. We don’t repair them.
- Spot repairs down inside the bath where water sits, or on shower bases. They don’t last.
- Kitchen sinks, Corian basins, or replacing or installing a bath or basin. We only repair.
Bath and basin repair questions
Can a chipped bath be repaired?
Usually, yes, if the chip is on the rim, the edges or the outside of the bath. We clean and dry the area, treat any bare steel on an enamelled bath so rust can’t creep under the repair, then fill the chip with a two-part filler.
It’s shaped to the curve of the bath, touched up to match your white and sealed. The filler itself cures in 5 to 10 minutes. What we don’t do is spot-repair chips down inside the bath where water sits. A small patch sitting in water every day doesn’t last, so for that kind of damage the honest options are resurfacing the whole bath or replacing it.
Send a photo of the whole bath and a close-up of each chip, and we’ll tell you which it is. We repair baths across Sydney and Melbourne, and the bath stays where it is.
Can you repair a chipped basin or bathroom sink?
Yes. Chips in bathroom basins are the most common bathroom job we do: knocked rims, chunks out of the side of a vessel basin, and chips along the front edge of wall-hung basins. Most basins are vitreous china or porcelain. We clean and seal the exposed body, fill the chip with a two-part filler, shape it to the curve, then touch it up to match your basin’s white and seal it.
A single basin chip usually takes two to three hours on site. We do this in homes, rentals and new builds across Sydney and Melbourne, and you can see examples in Glebe, Heidelberg and Brunswick East above. If the basin sits in a stone vanity top that’s also chipped, we can repair both in the same visit; the top is done the way we do stone benchtop repairs. We don’t repair kitchen sinks.
Do you do bath resurfacing or re-enamelling?
Yes, for a single bath or basin. When a bath is worn all over, has damage inside where water sits, or just looks tired, the whole fixture can be recoated rather than spot-repaired. It’s a different job to a chip repair: the surface is cleaned, keyed, any chips filled, then the whole bath or basin is resprayed.
Our resurfacing technicians in Sydney and Melbourne do this work, and we quote it from your photos plus the measurements of the fixture. A basin restoration is a full day on site. Resurfacing is less common than chip repair for us, so we’ll tell you honestly if a few chip repairs would do the job for less.
We don’t resurface whole bathrooms or wall tiles; for chipped or cracked tiles see our tile repairs. If your bath or basin is cracked, resurfacing won’t fix it.
Will I be able to see the repair?
Sometimes, if you look closely, and we tell you that upfront. The glaze on a basin or bath is glass, fired onto the surface in a kiln. Our repair is matched by hand and sealed on site, so we get very close on colour and close on gloss, but it won’t have exactly the same depth as the original glaze.
The other challenge is the white itself. Your basin left the factory as one of dozens of whites and has aged since, so we match your fixture’s white by eye rather than a catalogue colour. In practice, a filled and matched chip turns an obvious gouge into something most people stop noticing.
One customer wrote in their Google review that they couldn’t believe it was the same sink. We never promise an invisible repair, though. Daylight photos help us judge the white and tell you how close we can get.
How long does it take, and when can I use the bath or basin again?
A single basin chip usually takes two to three hours on site. A bath with several chips along an edge takes longer, and we tell you how long before we book. Most of that time is cleaning, drying, shaping and matching the colour; the two-part filler itself cures in 5 to 10 minutes.
The repair then needs to cure fully before water touches it, because using the bath or basin too early is the most common reason a repair like this fails. Your technician will tell you when it’s ready to use before they leave, so plan to keep the tap off and the plug out until then.
If it’s the only bathroom in the house, tell us when you book and we’ll plan the visit around it. Whole-fixture resurfacing is a longer job, and a basin restoration takes a full day on site.
Is there a warranty on bath and basin repairs?
Every repair comes with our warranty, unless we’ve told you otherwise for your job before you book. Baths and basins are where that exception comes up most. A repair that sits in water every day, and gets cleaned with products we can’t control, can wear faster than a repair on a benchtop, so for repairs in the wet parts of a bath or basin we usually can’t offer a warranty.
If that applies to your job, it’s written in your quote before you agree to anything, so you can decide with all the facts. Repairs away from the water, such as the outside of a freestanding bath or the edge of a vanity, are a different story, and we’ll tell you which applies from your photos.
Send photos of the chip and the area around it and we’ll explain what it means for your bath or basin.
Can a cracked bath or basin be repaired?
No, we don’t repair cracks or hairline fractures in baths or basins. A chip is a piece missing from the surface, and you can see the bottom of it. A crack is a line through the body of the fixture, and filling it doesn’t stop it moving or leaking.
Acrylic baths are a good example: they flex when you stand in them, so a rigid filler in a crack gets pushed back out, and a crack in the middle of the base usually means the bath wasn’t supported properly underneath. The real fix is under the bath, not on it.
Customers often describe a crack as a chip, so we check your photos and tell you which it is before you book. Send a close-up of the damage with good light across it. If it is a crack, replacing the fixture is usually the right call, and that’s not work we do.
Why don’t you repair chips inside the bath below the waterline?
Because they don’t last, and we would rather tell you that than take your money. A patch on the floor or lower sides of a bath sits in standing water, soap and cleaning products every time the bath is used, and takes wear from feet.
On an enamelled steel bath, a chip low down has often started to rust underneath, which lifts a small repair from below. So we don’t spot-repair chips below the waterline of a bath or on shower bases. Chips on the rim, the edges above the water and the outside of the bath are fine.
For damage lower down, the options are resurfacing the whole bath, which recoats the entire inside, or replacing it. Send a wide photo that shows where the chip is and we’ll tell you which applies in your bathroom in Sydney or Melbourne.
Do bath and basin repair kits work?
For a very small chip you’re happy to touch up yourself, a kit can make it less noticeable. The things that usually go wrong are the same things our technicians spend most of their time on. On an enamelled steel bath, bare metal needs treating first, or rust grows under the filler and lifts it within months.
The colour is the next problem: kits come in a standard white, and your bath or basin has aged into its own shade, so a bright white patch can stand out more than the chip did. Then the filler needs shaping to the curve and enough time to cure before water touches it.
If you’ve already tried a kit and it hasn’t worked, we can usually take the old filler out and repair it properly. Send a photo and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth paying someone for.
Is it worth repairing a bath or basin instead of replacing it?
For chips, almost always. A repair is done in one visit and the bath or basin stays where it is. Replacing a bath usually means removing the tiles or hob around it, a plumber to disconnect and refit it, then re-tiling and re-sealing. Replacing a basin is simpler, but a new one may not match the bath and toilet next to it.
If the whole surface is tired, resurfacing the fixture is the middle option. We only repair, so we have no reason to talk you into anything. If your bath or basin is cracked, or the damage is somewhere a repair won’t last, we say so from the photos and you can make the call.
Many of our jobs are for landlords and property managers before a new tenant, and for builders fixing defects before handover. Send photos and we’ll give you a fixed price.
Do you repair baths and basins in my area?
We repair baths, basins and vanities across Sydney and Melbourne, from the inner suburbs out to the edges of both cities. Recent jobs include Glebe, Mosman and Potts Point in Sydney, and Brunswick East, Heidelberg and Fitzroy North in Melbourne. We don’t currently work in other cities.
Not sure if we cover your suburb? Put it in the quote form and we’ll confirm before anything is booked. Our technicians come to you, and travel is included in every quote. Most customers book by sending photos through the quote form, which takes about a minute, and we reply with a fixed price, usually within 24 hours.
Repairs are booked Monday to Friday. If you’d rather talk it through, call 0483 988 922 between 9 and 5, Monday to Friday. For other bathroom surfaces, see our bathroom surface repairs.
